The state-ranked No. 3 Long Beach City College men's soccer team secured a decisive 3-1 victory over East Los Angeles College on Tuesday afternoon. With this win, the Vikings improve to an impressive 11-1-1 overall record and 1-0-1 in South Coast Conference play.
"This was one of the few times we had to fight to come from behind," said Jorge Reyes, Director of Soccer Operations and Head Coach. "The players showed great resilience and emotional control. There was some frustration in the first half, but it was rewarding to see them overcome that and secure such a significant win."
The Huskies struck first in the opening half, taking a 1-0 lead. However, after halftime, the Vikings responded with intensity, scoring three goals in a four-minute span. Jose Mariscal initiated the comeback with a penalty kick at the 61:39 mark. Ulises Grado followed up with a free kick, expertly placing the ball into the top left corner of the Huskies' net, and then struck again just 20 seconds later, sealing the Vikings' 3-1 victory.
"We push through every challenge and achieve all the goals we set for ourselves," said Grado.
The Vikings will next take on No. 6 El Camino College on Friday, Oct. 18, at 4 p.m.
