Men's Volleyball: LBCC season ends with state semifinal loss to Grossmont

Sophomore outside hitter Jorge Cabrera had a match-high 23 kills to lead Grossmont College to a 25-19, 23-25, 25-20, 25-22 win over host Long Beach City College in the second semifinal of the 2013 CCCAA Men's Volleyball State Championship on Thursday.

Long Beach (Western State Conference No. 2) had no answer for Cabrera as he hit an impressive .404 on the night to go with eight digs. Freshman outside hitter Davis Anderson also had a big night at the net for the Griffins, collecting 12 kills on his way to a .409 hitting percentage. Freshman outside hitter Chet Radish also posted 12 kills with eight digs, and four blocks.

Long Beach closes its season with a 15-4 overall record. Sophomore opposite Jo'Lon Clark (pictured) did all he could to keep the Vikings in the match by posting 17 kills. Freshman outside hitter Austin Arcala had 11 kills and sophomore outside hitter Greg Utupo posted nine kills and led LBCC with 11 digs.

Grossmont, now 13-6, returns to the state championship final after a one-year absence. The Griffins lost to Irvine Valley 3-2 in the 2011 final. Grossmont will look to capture its first ever men's volleyball state championship.
