The Long Beach City College men's volleyball team needed just 57 minutes to complete a 25-14, 25-15, 25-19 Western State Conference sweep of visiting Los Angeles Trade-Tech College on Friday night.

The Vikings have won four straight since their five-set loss to El Camino College and improved their record to 12-2 overall and 6-1 in the WSC.

Playing against an overmatched L.A. Trade-Tech squad, LBCC head coach Jonathan Charette used lineups consisting of starters and reserves.

The Vikings were rolling all the way throughout the match and hit an impressive .400 in the second set, connecting for 10 kills on 15 attempts. But the Vikings stumbled at match point. Leading 24-12 in the third set, the Beavers rallied for seven straight points thanks to six Long Beach errors. Antonio Castillo's serve for Trade-Tech went out of bounds to finally end the set and give the match to LBCC.

Sophomore Reylea Speller (Wauwatosa, WI) led LBCC with seven kills and sophomore Ryan Boncuk (Poly HS) posted six kills, two aces, and two blocks. Backup setter Rupert Scott (Loughborough, England) totaled 19 assists and three aces while freshman Alfonso Mata (Warren HS) led LBCC with seven digs.

For Trade-Tech (6-7, 1-5 WSC), Antonio Boucher led with eight kills and William Pena had 18 assists.

Long Beach returns to action next Friday (Mar 28) at 6 p.m. when it will get a chance to avenge its lone conference loss at El Camino.
