Men’s Volleyball: Winning streak reaches nine, Vikings beat Pierce 3-1

Long Beach City College won its ninth straight match as the Vikings cruised to a 3-1 Western State Conference win at Los Angeles Pierce College on Wednesday. LBCC won the match by scores of 25-18, 16-25, 25-21, and 25-19 to improve to 9-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

Freshman Andrew Pearson (Huntington Beach HS) slammed down 15 kills to lead the Vikings. Sophomore Joshua Nehls (Warren HS) also had an impressive match as he totaled 12 kills, nine digs, and five blocks while freshman Gary Trejo (Warren HS) had a team-high 38 assists.

Since dropping their first two matches to open the season, the Vikings have been the hottest team in the state with nine straight wins.

Long Beach will look to push the streak to 10 when the Vikings host El Camino College in a 6 p.m. WSC match on Friday (Mar. 11). LBCC will play six of its next eight matches at home.
