No. 6 LBCC Men's Volleyball Owns the Middle in Five-Set Thriller

The No. 6 Long Beach City College men's volleyball team traveled to Woodland Hills, CA to face off against Pierce College on Friday afternoon. After falling behind 2-0, the Vikings turned on the gas and rattled off three-consecutive set victories to take the match in five sets.

The net play for the Vikings was dominant as they recorded a total of 20 block assists on the day. Freshman opposite Noah Taitano (Carson, CA) recorded a career-high seven block assists, backed by six block assists from sophomore middle Eli Garcia (Bellflower, CA). Sophomore outside Travis O'Gorman (East Northport, NY) chipped in six block assists as well.

Freshman outside Cyrus Fa'aloga (Salt Lake City, UT) paced the Vikings on the offensive end with 18 kills which was his third-largest output of the season. He contributed four digs and one block assist as well. O'Gorman added eight kills, while N. Taitano located the hardwood for seven kills.

Sophomore setters Gary Trejo (Downey, CA) and Jayce Ashment (Gilbert, AZ) combined for 33 assists with Trejo earned an even 20 and Ashment dishing out 13.

The Vikings (5-3) will return home Wednesday, March 1 to face off against the Antelope Valley Marauders at 6 p.m.
