After defeating the tenth-seeded Miramar College in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Round One Playoffs last Friday evening, the top-seeded Long Beach City College Vikings are set to take on No. 4 LA Pierce in the CCCAA Championship Semifinals at Fullerton College on Thursday, Apr. 26 at 5 p.m.

The Vikings look to reclaim their title as they won the 2016 State Championship by defeating Orange Coast College in four sets. Last year, the Vikings advanced to the Championship Semifinal, but lost to El Camino College 3-0. The Vikings are coming back to the CCCAA Championship Semifinals ready as ever as they enter the post-season with a perfect 20-0 record.

During the regular season, the Vikings defeated Pierce twice. In the first game on Feb. 16, the Viking swept the Brahmas 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-22). Sophomore outside hitter Andrew Pearson left the court with a kill percentage of .571 and totaled ten kills for the game and had two service aces. Sophomore Steven Rotter led the team with 13 kills and had three block assists.

In their second game against the Brahmas, the Vikings took on Pierce at home came out with another 3-0 sweep. They won by the sets of (25-21, 25-20 and 25-17). Pearson led the team again with a .667 percentage with six kills executed out of nine attacks. Pearson also acquired three digs and a block assist. Rotter was on fire defensively by totaling five blocks assists. He led the Vikings on offense by totaling 15 overall points with 13 kills.

No. 4 Pierce looks to further their eight-game winning streak against the Vikings to advance to the CCCAA Championship Finals. They came in first in the Western State-North Conference with an undefeated 6-0 record. Last Friday, they defeated No. 5 Fullerton College in three sets (25-20, 25-12, 15-19) to advance to the semifinals against the Vikings.
