No. 3 Men’s Volleyball Takes Down No. 4 Santa Barbara 3-2

The No. 3 Long Beach men's volleyball won their fifth-consecutive game against the No. 4 Santa Barbara City College Vaqueros 3-2 in their sixth conference game of the season.  With the win, the Viking improve to 10-3 and 5-1 in the Western State Conference.

The Viking smashed the Vaqueros in the first set 25-9. Then Long Beach dropped the second and third sets 18-25 and 23-25.

The Vaqueros were ready to finish the game in the fourth set, but the Vikings kept rallying and ultimately won the fourth set 29-27. Finally, in the fifth and final set, the Vikings took control of the lead and held on to win 15-10.

Freshman setter Joseph Rocha totaled 38 assists for the game and led the team with 11 digs. Freshman outside hitter Kyle Anema was on fire at the net as he smashed 15 kills and had four digs. Freshman middle blocker Geoffrey Mike and freshman opposite Uriel Batista were the defense for the Vikings as they both totaled five blocks.

The Vikings will return to conference action on Friday, Mar. 22 against LA Pierce College at 6 p.m. in the Building Q Gym.
