Men’s Volleyball’s Uriel Batista Blasts Through No. 7 Santiago Canyon

The No. 1 Long Beach City College men's volleyball team took down the No. 7 Santiago Canyon College Hawks 3-1 on Wednesday evening in the Building Q Gym. With the win, the Vikings hold on to their 9-1 overall record and are still 2-0 in the Western State Conference.

Sophomore opposite Uriel Batista was a powerhouse against the Hawks with totaling 23 digs and led the team with a .459 kill percentage against the Hawks. Batista currently sits second on the state leaderboard with averaging 4.03 kills per set.  

Freshman middle blocker Arsene Ponsin, who is the leader in the state with 147 total kills, put on a show against the Hawks, as he hit 13 kills and had six digs and one service ace for the Vikings.

Sophomore setter Joseph Rocha also was successful on the court as he totaled 46 assists and had two major service aces against Santiago Canyon. Rocha averages 10.53 assists per set.

The No. 1 Vikings will be back again on Friday, Mar. 6 at Pierce College at 6 p.m.
