Vikings Show Grit in Home Opener but Fall to San Diego Mesa
The men’s volleyball team fell to San Diego Mesa College 3-1 on Wednesday evening.
The Long Beach City College men's volleyball team put up a strong fight in their home opener but ultimately fell to San Diego Mesa College 3-1 on Wednesday evening. The Vikings battled through four competitive sets, falling 20-25, 25-22, 23-25, and 19-25.
"It's a tough loss, but we're seeing growth in the areas we need to improve," said Head Coach Josh Nehls. "We're just not all the way there yet, so we're going to keep pushing forward."
Outside hitter Alden Jacobs led the Vikings with 11 kills, eight digs, and one assist, while opposite Nathan Kramer contributed nine kills and three blocks. Setter Logan Karkenen orchestrated the offense with an impressive 40 assists and added nine digs on defense. Outside hitter Bryce Bowsher also delivered a solid performance with eight kills, eight digs, and two blocks.
"Unfortunately, our errors took us out of this game," said Bowsher. "For the most part, we beat ourselves rather than them beating us."
The Vikings will look to bounce back when they hit the road to face Grossmont College on Wednesday, February 4, at 6 p.m.
