Former Viking standout Jonathan Charette returns for his 12th season as head coach of the highly successful LBCC men's volleyball team in 2023. Prior to taking over the program, Charette served as an assistant coach during the 2009 season.

In 2019, Charette led the Vikings to their Fourth-Consecutive Western State Southern Division Conference Title. The Vikings had a successful season bringing home another state title and the third state title under Jonathan Charette. 

In 2017, Charette led the Vikings to a CCCAA Championship Semifinal apperance where they fell to conference rivals El Camino 3-0. The Vikings hauled in a second-consecutive Western State Conference title after defeating El Camino 3-0, during the season the Vikings maintained a perfect record in conference play going 6-0 with an overall record of 16-4.


In 2016, Charette led the Vikings to its ninth state title as well as a Western State Conference title. The team went undefeated in conference play at a record of 12-0 and went 21-2 overall. The Vikings two losses came against Golden West and Orange Coast College during the regular season, during the CCCAA State Championships the Vikings defeated both teams to win the title.

 
In his first season as co-head coach in 2012, Charette led the Vikings to a state championship as well as a Western State Conference title. In the past two seasons, Charrette has posted an overall record of 37-6 which includes a 4-1 record in state playoffs. Additionally, he has gone undefeated in conference play for the past two seasons at a perfect record of 18-0.

As a freshman at Long Beach City College in 2004, Charette earned State Tournament Most Valuable Player honors after leading LBCC to the 2004 State Championship. Charette was also named Western State Conference MVP as a sophomore in 2005.

Following LBCC, Charette took his talents to Brigham Young University (BYU) and played during the 2006 and 2008 seasons. As a senior, Charette was named to the MPSF All-Tournament team.

Charette returned to LBCC after playing professionally in 2010 in Switzerland.
