Freshman Ikko Saito (Cerritos HS), a member of the 2013 state champion Long Beach City College men's water polo team, has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his academic and athletic career at the University of the Pacific this coming fall.

Saito, one of the Vikings' leading attackers during the championship season, racked up the postseason awards in 2013. He earned All-American honors, was named to the All-State Tournament team, and captured first-team All-Southern California as well as All-South Coast Conference accolades.

Saito scored a game-high five goals in LBCC's state final win over Golden West College and totaled nine goals over two state championship games.

He will take his talents to UOP, located in Stockton. Pacific, under head coach James Graham, recently completed its best season in school history. The Tigers went 23-5, won a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championship, and advanced to the NCAA Division I National Championship final. Pacific pushed defending national champion USC but ultimately lost in overtime to earn a NCAA runner up trophy.

"It's a great up and coming program," said Saito on his decision to sign with Pacific. "The campus and athletic facilities are amazing. The community is really supportive too. I just really felt comfortable with the coaching staff and team."

Saito was one of 18 freshmen on a very talented Viking squad this past fall. Although he will miss him next season, LBCC head coach Chris Oeding is proud to see Saito move on to the next level.

"Ikko is an amazing talent," said Oeding. "It will be tough to replace him next season. We'll miss his leadership on the team but we wish him the best at UOP."
