Sacramento, CA -- The Golden West College Men's Water Polo team won their 23rd California Community College Athletic Association State Championship on Saturday with a 5-2 win over Long Beach City College in the 2014 CCCAA State Title game held at American River College.  It's their fifth such championship in the last six seasons.

It was a war of wills in the final contest of the weekend. Scoring was at a premium, with the first goal of the game and the only goal of the first quarter coming from the Rustlers' Dalton Kenefick. Gabriel Goncalves would give Golden West a 2-0 lead in the second quarter, before Nathan Pinkney scored for the Vikings with 5:07 left in the second.

The next score of the game wouldn't come until late in the third quarter when Reed Cotterell ripped the cords with 1:43 left. Cotterell opened up the fourth with another goal that made it 4-1. Shortly thereafter Kenefick made it 5-1 on a score with 5:47 left in the contest. LBCC's James Applegate would get it down to three with 2:43 on the clock, but that's all the scoring the Rustlers would allow as they went on to earn the win.
