Men’s Water Polo: Vikings go 3-1 to open season at Cuesta Tournament

The Long Beach City College men's water polo team opened up the 2015 season by picking three wins out of four games at the Cuesta College Tournament in San Luis Obispo.

Long Beach picked up wins over Los Angeles Valley College (12-10), host Cuesta (14-9), and perennial Northern California power Diablo Valley College (15-10) but suffered its lone loss to defending state champion and nearby rival Golden West College by a narrow 8-6 margin.

In the LA Valley win, freshman Giorgio La Rosa (Catania, Italy) was impressive in his LBCC debut. He scored six goals to go with three steals and an assist to lead the Vikings. Sophomore Max Taylor (Las Vegas, NV) and freshman Teo Dadic (Dubrovnic, Croatia) also had two goals each.

Long Beach closed out the tourney with the five-goal win over defending Northern California champion Diablo Valley. Freshman Aaron Mowl (St. John Bosco HS) and Dadic both poured in four goals each to lead LBCC. Freshman Marton Gorbics (Budapest, Hungary) also chipped in with two goals and four assists.

In goal, sophomore Noah Borin (Vista Murrieta HS) posted six saves and freshman Nick Wood (Newport Harbor HS) came off the bench to total four saves.

Long Beach returns to action on Wednesday (Sept. 23) at 4:15 p.m. when the Vikings travel to Rio Hondo College to open South Coast Conference play.
