Men's Water Polo: Vikings edge Cerritos 13-12 for third straight SCC championship

Freshman Giorgio La Rosa (Catania, Italy) scored a game-high five goals and added five steals to help lead the Long Beach City College men's water polo team to a 13-12 come-from-behind win over Cerritos College in the championship final of the 2015 South Coast Conference tournament.

Long Beach trailed 11-10 after three quarters to the host Falcons before outscoring Cerritos 3-1 in the fourth.

Sophomore Max Taylor (Las Vegas, NV)  added three goals and five steals while Marton Gorbics (Budapest, Hungary) had a game-high seven assists to go with two goals.  Freshman Nick Wood (Newport Harbor HS) had a big game in goal for the Vikings, as he totaled 13 saves.

The SCC championship was the third straight for the Long Beach men and 13th title over the past 15 years.  LBCC went a perfect 8-0 in conference games this season.

The Vikings reached the championship final with a convincing 22-3 victory over LA Trade-Tech College on Friday in the SCC semifinals. LBCC led 20-0 after three quarters. La Rosa and freshman Aaron Mowl (St. John Bosco HS) both scored four goals to lead the Vikings. Sophomore Noah Borin (Vista Murrieta HS) and Wood combined for 12 saves in goal for Long Beach.

LBCC will take a 20-4 overall record into next week's Southern California Regional championship tournament. The three-day event runs November 12-14 at Mt. San Antonio College. Playoff  seedings will be announced on Sunday.
