Long Beach City College Men's Water Polo's Conor Shuey (Palo Verde HS/Las Vegas) has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his academic and athletic career at San Jose State University next fall.

"I'm excited for the opportunity," said Shuey on signing with San Jose State. "I feel pretty good to be moving on. I felt there was great potential and a lot of opportunity to do well there."

Shuey, originally out of Albuquerque, N.M., was a two-year member of the LBCC water polo and swimming teams. He recently wrapped up his sophomore season and earned second-team All-South Coast Conference honors while helping lead the Vikings to the 2015 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) state championship.

He scored a pair of critical goals in Long Beach's 12-11 overtime-victory against Golden West College in the state championship final.

Interim water polo head coach David Kasa says Shuey is the first of many members of his state championship squad to be moving on to the next level.

"Conor processes great skill, toughness, and determination that will ensure success at the Division I level," said Kasa. "I look forward to watching him continue to develop at San Jose State under coach Bruce Watson."

Shuey is the third Viking to head north to San Jose to play for Spartans. 2014 LBCC All-Americans Blake Grove and Matej Matijevic recently wrapped up their junior seasons at SJSU.

San Jose State played its first season in 2015 after the program was reinstated following a 34-year hiatus. SJSU competes at the NCAA Division I level and is a member of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation in water polo.

Shuey plans to major in kinesiology. He is currently competing on LBCC's swimming and diving team this spring.
