Viking Men's Water Polo Set to Compete in the CCCAA State Championships

After competing in the SoCal Regional Playoffs last weekend, the Long Beach City College men's water polo team qualified for the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships that begin with a semifinal game against the West Valley College Vikings on Friday, November 18th at 3 p.m. at Las Positas College in Livermore, CA.

LBCC looks to haul in back-to-back CCCAA State Championships after accomplishing this feat in 2015 in an overtime win against Golden West. Long Beach has made it to the CCCAA State Championships four years in a row and looks to capture their third state title in four years.

Long Beach boasts an overall record of 21-6 that includes a 7-1 mark in the South Coast Conference (SCC). Throughout the season, LBCC has recorded six victories by a double-digit margin proving their power to perform in the pond.

Long Beach is paced by the sophomore attacker Teo Dadic (Dubrovnic, Croatia) on offense as he leads the Vikings in scoring with 54 goals. Dadic has recorded a goal in 18 games with a season-high mark of seven netters in an 18-11 win over Mt. SAC on Friday, November 4th. Furthermore, he has pocketed 25 steals and dished out 27 assists.

Freshman center Gavin Kunkle (Newport Beach, CA) backs his teammate with 41 goals, while freshman attacker Myles Martinez (La Jolla, CA) has zipped home 39 goals on the year.

Sophomore goalkeeper Nick Wood (Long Beach, CA) has manned the posts in 22 games this season and has emerged as one of the most effective backstops in the CCCAA. His 19 wins ranks him tied for second in the CCCAA to go along with his 193 saves.
