Former LBCC Men's Water Polo Player Excels at the Next Level, Hauls in NCAA DI Championship

The Long Beach City College men's water polo traditions have proven to be extremely successful for decades. While reaching the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships for four consecutive years, the Vikings have seen numerous talents pass through their waters. Most recently, former LBCC men's water polo athlete and 2013 CCCAA Player of the Year Lazar Andric ('13) was part of the University of California Berkley Golden Bears NCAA Championship run.

Andric, who hails from Herceg-Novi, Montengro, was a huge factor in the double-overtime title win by making 14 stops following a game in which he notched 16 saves in an overtime victory against UCLA. His play earned him the tournament MVP.

Andric has been a staple between the pipes throughout the entire season. In 26 games, he recorded 212 saves while averaging an impressive 11.86 saves-per-game mark.

Head Coach Chris Oeding, who has been at the helm of the Viking programs for 16 season, has seen multiple players perform on a grand stage that range from the Olympics to Division I powerhouses.

"Lazar epitomizes excellence both in the water and in the classroom," said Oeding. "We couldn't be happier for his accomplishments at a school as rigorous and prestigious as UC Berkely."

During his time at LBCC, he led his team to a CCCAA State Championship and a South Coast Conference (SCC) Championship.
