Men's Cross Country: Long Beach finishes second at San Diego Invitational

Led by top-five finishes by sophomores Michael Delgado (pictured, left) and Pedro Cruz (pictured, right), the Long Beach City College men's cross country team finished in second place out of five teams at the San Diego Invitational at Mission Bay Park.

Delgado was third overall at 21:47 while Cruz clocked in at 22:15 for fifth place to lead Long Beach to a 54-point team total.

"I thought we did well, said first-year men's head coach John Goldman. "We hung in tough with San Diego Mesa, that won the meet, and defeated East LA, a team that has been ranked as high 12th in the state."

San Diego Mesa was first with 24 points, followed by Long Beach (54), East Los Angeles (69), host San Diego City (99) and Rio Hondo (137).

The Viking men return to action Friday (Oct. 12) when they will compete at the Santa Barbara Invitational.
