Men's Cross Country: Vikings, Jimenez open with eighth place at Rio Hondo
New Long Beach City College men's cross country head coach Julio Jimenez and his squad made their debut on Friday as the Vikings totaled 217 points to finish in eighth place out of nine teams at the Rio Hondo Invitational at Whittier Narrows in South El Monte.

Sophomore Jerry Toliver (Artesia HS) led Long Beach with a 27th-place finish. He cleared the four-mile course with a time of 22:20. 

Freshman Joel Peralta (Wilson HS) was next for the Vikings in 43rd place at 23:51 followed by sophomore Andrew Harris (Cabrillo HS) in 47th place with a time of 24:08.

Southwestern College was first in the final team standings with an impressive 20 points. Southwestern had the top four finishers including individual winner Steven Lepe at 20:08.
