Men’s Cross Country: Torres sixth at SoCals, Vikings qualify for State Championships

Sophomore Omar Torres (Warren HS) finished in sixth place to lead the Long Beach City College men's cross country team at the Southern California Regional Championships on Friday in Van Nuys.

As a squad, the Vikings totaled 407 points to finish in 17th place overall. With its showing, LBCC has also qualified as a team for the State Championships in Fresno.

Torres started strong and stayed among the leaders throughout the race. He cleared the four-mile course at Woodley Park with a time of 20.21.18.

Following Torres was sophomore Justin Weaver (East Side HS) in 74th place at 21:47.42. Other times for the Vikings included:

The 2014 CCCAA Cross Country State Championships are set for November 22 at Woodward Park. According to second-year head coach Julio Jimenez, the LBCC men are back in the state finals for the first time since the mid-1990s.
