Men's Cross Country: Long Beach ends season with 20th-place finish at State Championships

The Long Beach City College men's cross country team closed out the 2015 season on Saturday by scoring 556 points to finish in 20th place out of 28 teams at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Cross Country State Championship in Fresno.

Sophomore Gerardo Salazar (Lakewood HS) was the Vikings' top finisher, clearing the four-mile course at Woodward Park with a time of 22:02.1 to finish in 86th place. Freshman Jared Jones (Loyola HS) also finished among the top 100, clocking in at 22:11.6 for 100th place.

LBCC improved on last year's 23rd-place finish at the State Championships. Under head coach Julio Jimenez, the Vikings made their second straight appearance at the state finals.

American River College won the men's team state championship with a score of 67 points. College of the Canyons' Ethan Walker was the individual winner, taking first with a time of 20:09.8.
