Softball: Former LBCC coach Gasso leads Oklahoma to NCAA Championship

Former Long Beach City College head coach Patty Gasso captured her second NCAA Women's College World Series National Championship after leading Oklahoma University to a pair of wins over the University of Tennessee in the championship series final.

Last night's 4-0 win capped a two-game sweep for Oklahoma and came a day after an amazing 5-3, 12-inning walk-off win over Tennessee in Game 1 of the series on Monday.

"I cannot tell you how honored I am to be the coach of this team because they're just special, and they know how to win; and they fought, and they were never afraid," Gasso said after the win.

Gasso has led the Sooners to the postseason in all 19 of her seasons as head coach at Oklahoma and also won a national championship in 2000. She closed the 2013 season with a coaching record of 928-283-2 at the university.

Gasso took the head coach job at OU in 1995 following an impressive five-year career at LBCC (1990-94). She compiled a 161-59-1 overall record and led the Vikings to four South Coast Conference titles and a pair of Southern California Regional championships.

In 2004, Gasso was inducted into the LBCC Hall of Champions. She is also a member of the Long Beach Baseball and Softball Hall of Fame. And in 2012, Gasso was inducted into the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Hall of Fame.
