The Long Beach City College softball team suffered its third straight loss, dropping an 11-1 six-inning non-conference game to visiting No. 2 state-ranked Palomar College on Friday.

The Comets, ranked No. 1 in Southern California, rattled off 13 hits and improved to 20-2 overall while Long Beach dropped to 15-13.

The Vikings managed just three hits in the contest, but scored its lone run thanks to a solo home run by freshman Mary Gonzales (Banning HS) in the bottom of the first inning. Gonzales smacked a 3-2 pitch from Palomar starter Kristina Carbajal off the top of the fence in straightaway centerfield for her second home run of the season.

Sophomore Natalie Ayala (Torrance HS) took the loss for Long Beach. She allowed seven runs (five earned) and nine hits over four innings.

Long Beach closes out a tough stretch of five games over five days on Saturday (Mar 29) when it will play a pair at the Ventura College tournament. The Vikings take on Cypress College at 10:30 a.m. before closing out the day with a 3 p.m. game against Allan Hancock College.
