Softball: Bernal, Pallan, Yepez make list of five Vikings to transfer with athletic scholarships

Long Beach City College sophomores Reina Bernal and Melissa Yepez, as well as freshman Rayleen Pallan have all committed to four-year colleges and will receive athletic scholarships to continue their academic and athletic careers this coming fall.

Bernal is heading to MidAmerica Nazarene University, Pallan is off to Portland State University, while Yepez is going east to Bloomfield College.

Bernal saw action in nine games at catcher and first base this past season and had three hits in 12 at bats. She smacked a double and totaled 3 RBI.  MidAmerica Nazarene is located in Olathe, Kansas and competes in the Heart of America Athletic Conference of the NAIA.

Pallan had an impressive freshman season for Long Beach at shortstop. She earned first-team All-South Coast Conference honors after compiling a .344 batting average in conference action. For the season, Pallan hit .341 over 39 games, scored 34 runs, and stole nine bases.

NCAA Division I Portland State is located in Portland, Oregon and is a member of the Big Sky Conference.

Yepez will travel the farthest of the group, taking her talents to Bloomfield College in Bloomfield, New Jersey. Yepez was a two-year starter for LBCC (2013-14) at second base and this past spring and hit .351 overall, collecting 40 hits in 114 at bats. She scored 23 runs and totaled 13 RBI.

Bloomfield is a NCAA Division II institution and is competes in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.

The trio joins sophomores Natalie Ayala and Melyssa Rivas as Vikings from the 2014 squad to transfer on. Ayala will compete at NCAA Division I Austin Peay State University in Tennessee while Rivas will continue at Concordia University (NAIA) in Michigan.
