Sophomore starting pitcher Mary Gonzales (Banning HS) allowed one run and four hits while the Long Beach City College offense banged out 12 hits in an 8-1 South Coast Conference win over visiting Pasadena City College on Tuesday.

With the victory, LBCC improved to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Gonzales improved to 2-3 this season with today's complete-game win. She also contributed two hits and a RBI at the plate for the Vikings.

Leading 3-1, Long Beach blew the game open with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Freshman Vanessa Valdez' (Lakewood HS) RBI double got the scoring started before freshman Andrea Barba (Cypress HS) smacked a two-run double. Gonzales had a sacrifice fly and freshman Gabrielle De La Vega (Redondo Union HS) added a RBI single.

Barba (2 for 2) and De La Vega both had a pair of hits and two RBI for LBCC.

Pasadena's Cierra Newton allowed six earned runs and 10 hits over 5+ innings to earn the loss. Pasadena fell to 8-4 overall and 0-3 in SCC play.

Long Beach returns to action on Thursday (Feb. 19) when it travels to Los Angeles Harbor College for a 2 p.m. conference game.
