The Long Beach City College softball team suffered a 4-1 South Coast Conference loss to visiting El Camino College on Thursday at LBCC. The defeat dropped Long Beach to 13-25-1 overall and 6-14 in conference play. A tough 2015 season will come to an end on Tuesday (Apr. 21) when the Vikings host visiting East Los Angeles College at 3 p.m.

The Vikings couldn't take advantage of another good outing from starting pitcher Mary Gonzales (Banning HS). She held El Camino hitless over the first four innings before the Warriors finally broke through in the fifth.

A two-out double down the right-field line by Reina Trejo scored Kristen Romero for the game's first run. One batter later, LBCC first baseman Andrea Barba (Cypress HS) couldn't handle Danielle Bonsky's slow grounder that allowed two more runs to score. Marissa Padilla capped the rally with a RBI single to drive in Bonsky.

The Vikings also had their chances to score. In the third, Long Beach loaded the bases with one out, but freshman Doreen Corella (San Pedro HS) lined into a double play to end the threat.

LBCC scored its lone run in the seventh thanks to a RBI groundout by Barba that brought home Gabrielle De La Vega (Redondo Union HS).

Gonzales took the loss to fall to 10-16 after allowing one earned run and two hits over five innings. Freshman Brianna Alvarez (Montebello HS) went 2 for 3 to lead the Vikings at the plate.

Sierra Gabriel picked up the win for El Camino to improve to 11-1. She allowed one run and four hits over six innings. With the win, El Camino improved to 29-9 overall and 16-3 in conference play. The Warriors wrapped up their first SCC championship since 1989.
