The Long Beach City College Softball team went out on a winning note, closing out the 2015 season with a 6-1 South Coast Conference win over visiting East Los Angeles College on Tuesday.

The Vikings used a six-run fifth-inning to blow out the Huskies on Sophomore Day. Long Beach opened the frame with three consecutive singles. Freshman Brianna Alvarez (Montebello HS) tied up the contest, scoring on a passed ball before freshman Vanessa Valdez (Lakewood HS) put the Vikings ahead for good. She smacked a two-run single down the right-field line that scored freshman Doreen Corella (San Pedro HS) and sophomore Mary Gonzales (Banning HS).

Freshman Erika Balboa (Gahr HS) followed with a RBI single to drive in sophomore Amanda Sandoval (North Torrance HS) and freshman Andrea Barba's (Cypress HS) single brought home sophomore Cristina Barajas (Warren HS). An East Los Angeles error on the play allowed Balboa to score as well.

Gonzales (11-16) closed out her LBCC career with the complete-game victory in the circle. She scattered four hits, allowed just the one run, and struck out seven.

Her lone mistake was a two-out RBI single to Larissa Munoz in the top of the first. After that, she was nearly untouchable and at one point retired 11 straight Huskies batters.

Byanka Diosdado took the loss for East Los Angeles (15-21, 9-12 SCC). She allowed 12 hits and five earned runs over six innings.

Despite a final overall record of 14-25-1, LBCC won three of its final five games, including an 8-2 victory over No. 14 state-ranked Mt. San Antonio College last Tuesday. LBCC ends in seventh place in the SCC standings at 7-14.
