Long Beach City College sophomore Mariah Jacobo (La Serna HS) went 2 for 3 with 3 RBI while sophomore Brooke Loard (Millikan HS) allowed one run and struck out eight to help lead the Vikings to an 8-1 win at Los Angeles Harbor College on Thursday. The South Coast Conference victory capped a 2-0 week for LBCC and improved the Vikings to 14-12 overall and 6-6 in the SCC.

Long Beach totaled 12 hits in the contest off Harbor pitcher Jocelyn Hernandez, getting two hits each from Jacobo as well sophomores Doreen Corella (San Pedro HS), Erika Balboa (Gahr HS) and Sarah Maldonado (Port of Los Angeles HS).

Jacobo got the Vikings on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning with a single that brought home Corella and started a three-run, sixth-inning rally with a RBI double that scored freshman Yulissa Dominguez (Santa Fe HS).

Loard was cruising in the contest, holding Harbor (9-16, 4-8 SCC) scoreless until the sixth inning. She allowed eight hits and improved to 7-7 with the complete-game victory.

Long Beach has won six of its last 10 games to continue to move up in the SCC standings. At 6-6, the Vikings currently sit in fifth place, just one game behind El Camino and Pasadena who are tied for third at 7-5. LBCC hosts Pasadena on Tuesday (Mar. 29) at 3 p.m.
