Softball Defeats East Los Angeles College on Home Turf

The Vikings defeated the East Los Angeles College Huskies 5-1 on Thursday afternoon to win their third-straight game. With the win, the Vikings are now 13-10 overall and 1-3 in the South Coast Conference.

Sophomore pitcher Alissa Cienfuegos (8-8) took her eighth win on the mound with one run on six hits, while striking out five in seven innings of work.

The Vikings took off in the first inning with a run from sophomore right fielder Alijah Vega. Sophomore left fielder Lauren Blevins went three-for-three at-bat during the game and scored in her first run in the bottom of the second inning after stealing back-to-back bases.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, sophomore first baseman Julia Juarez and Blevins were both batted in from a 2RBI double by sophomore catcher Samantha Ontiveros to bring the Vikings lead up 4-1.

The Vikings had one more in them as Cienfuegos scored the fifth and final run from an RBI single by Juarez in the bottom of the sixth to win the game 5-1.

The Long Beach City College softball team will play again on Saturday, Mar. 17 at No. 1 Cypress College at 1 p.m.
