Vikings Fall to El Camino College 8-2

The Long Beach City College softball team fell to the El Camino College Warriors 8-2 on Tuesday afternoon at the Viking Softball Field. With the conference loss, the Vikings drop 21-15 overall and 4-6 in the South Coast-South Conference.

Freshman pitcher Emilee Hoppe (7-1) took her first loss of the season on the mound with eight hits on eight runs, two earned, while striking out two.

The Warriors were first on the scoreboard with two runs in the top of the first. They came back in the second with one run, and then added two more from a single in the top of the fourth to lead the Vikings 5-0.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, sophomore shortstop Alissa Cienfuegos smashed her eleventh home run of the season to close the gap on the Warriors 5-1.

Cienfuegos sits in third place on the conference leaderboard in home runs and is followed by freshman left fielder Raven Agapay, who is fifth with a total of seven home runs on the season.

The Warriors ran home three more runs to extend their lead 8-1 in the top of the fifth. Freshman designated player Celeste Gutierrez finalized the game by scoring the last run for the Vikings off a passed ball to finish the game 8-2.

The Vikings will compete again on Thursday, Apr. 19 at LA Harbor College at 3 p.m.
