Softball Earns Third-Straight Playoff Appearance

After placing third in the highly competitive South Coast Conference (SCC)-South with an overall record of 23-16 and 6-6 conference mark, the No. 18 Vikings have made the playoffs for the third-consecutive season under Head Coach Megan Martinez and will face off against No. 15 Fullerton College of the Orange Empire Conference.

The play-in game will be hosted by Fullerton College on Tuesday, May 1 at 3 p.m. The winner of the game will advance to play against No.1 Palomar College or No. 2 Mount San Antonio College in round one of playoffs. 

The Long Beach City College Vikings haven't competed against the Fullerton College Hornets in softball since 2011, when they tied Fullerton 6-6 in the Glendale tournament.

The Hornets placed fourth in the Orange Empire Conference with an overall record of 24-16 and 12-9 in conference. As a team, the Hornets hold 206 runs on top of 322 hits and 173 RBIs. The Hornets boasted four players to the All-OEC Conference Team.

This season, the Vikings totaled 233 runs with a .331 batting average and an on base percentage of .401 percent. They barreled 21 home runs and 355 hits.

The Vikings recently announced six players to the All-South Coast-South Conference Team with sophomore pitcher Alissa Cienfuegos, freshman utility Raven Agapay, and sophomore first baseman Julia Juarez all earned First-Team All-Conference nods, while sophomore left fielder Alijah Vega and freshman second baseman Jennifer Tobar brought in Second-Team All-Conference honors. Sophomore left fielder Lauren Blevins also earned All- Conference Honorable Mention accolades.

Cienfuegos not only earned her second First-Team Honors, but was also named the SCC–South Pitcher of the Year and on the All-State honors list.
