Vikings Softball Dominates Season Opener with 7-0 Shutout Against Orange Coast

The Vikings softball team kicked off their 2024 season with an impressive 7-0 victory against Orange Coast, securing a shutout win. Pitcher Bayleigh Fry (1-0) dominated on the mound, limiting the Pirates to only four hits while striking out six.

The action heated up in the bottom of the second when third baseman Alejandra Mota delivered an RBI single, bringing in right fielder Alynna Gonzalez for the first run.

The Vikings continued their offensive prowess in the bottom of the third. Center fielder Robin Garcia's RBI triple scored shortstop Xiomei Geluz, followed by a sacrifice fly from first baseman Anaya Togia that brought in Garcia. Right after, Gonzalez's RBI single added another run, scoring designated player Jordyn Villanueva.

In the fifth inning, the Vikings maintained their momentum, securing another run from pinch-runner Mikayla Cuellar, and then two more runs from Geluz, Garcia in the sixth inning, ultimately sealing the 7-0 shutout win over the Pirates.

Gonzalez showcased her offensive skills with an impressive 3-for-4 performance at the plate, contributing 1 run and 2 RBIs.

Looking ahead, the Vikings are set to return to the field on Tuesday, Jan. 30, facing Citrus College at 2:30 p.m.
