Vikings Extend Shutout Streak in Doubleheader Dominance Against Grossmont

The Vikings extended their scoreless streak, achieving their third shutout against Grossmont with an impressive 8-0 victory in the opening match of Friday's doubleheader. Although a run slipped past them in the second game, the Vikings secured a solid 10-1 triumph over the Griffins.

In the first game, pitcher Mariah Zapata (1-0) dominated on the mound, limiting the Griffins to just one hit while striking out five. The Vikings showcased their hitting expertise, with third baseman Alejandra Mota going 2 for 3 at-bats, including a double and a triple, contributing 2 runs and two RBIs. Shortstop Xiomei Geluz added to the offensive showcase with a 2 for 4 at-bat performance, including a crucial 2 RBI triple.

Game 2 saw pitcher Bayleigh Fry (3-0) securing her third win while allowing only one run and striking out five. The Vikings continued their dominance by posting seven runs in the first inning and adding two more in the second. Despite allowing a run to the Griffins in the top of the fourth, the Vikings sealed the 10-1 victory with a home run from first baseman Anaya Togia.

Togia's outstanding performance in the second game included a 2 for 2 at-bat record, three runs, and 1 RBI against the Griffins.

"I'm proud of our team for how disciplined we stayed at the plate and the intensity we brought to the game," said Renee Sena. " Every win feels like a team win and it's a great feeling to be a part of it."

 The Vikings look forward to their next challenge against Riverside College on Tuesday, Feb. 6, at 2:30 p.m.
