The No. 13 Long Beach City College softball team opened the 2025 season with a tough 5-1 loss to Mt. San Jacinto on Friday afternoon.
The Vikings came out strong, striking first as outfielder Sienna Rievley showcased her speed by stealing home to give LBCC an early 1-0 lead. However, the Eagles quickly responded, plating two runs in the second inning before adding three more in the third to secure the win.
"We started off the game hot, but the ball just didn't bounce our way," said third baseman Michelle Cervantes. "The potential we have is exciting."
Despite the setback, Director of Softball Operations and Head Coach Megan Martinez remains optimistic about the season ahead. "I'm excited about the future of our program," she said. "2025 is going to be something special."
The Vikings will look to bounce back at home on Saturday, Jan. 24, when they take on Citrus College at 1 p.m.
