Vikings Rally in the Seventh to Stun Citrus, 7-6
The Vikings staged a walk-off win comeback to defeat Citrus College 7-6 on Saturday afternoon.
The No. 13 Long Beach City College softball team staged a dramatic seventh-inning comeback to defeat Citrus College 7-6 on Saturday afternoon at the LBCC Softball Complex.
"I think today's win was a team win—everyone was in it, and we showed that we have that dawg in us," said first baseman Anaya Togia. "It's just the beginning, and we already know we can do it."
Trailing 6-0 entering the final frame, the Vikings ignited their offense and plated seven runs to complete the thrilling walk-off victory.
Citrus took control early, scoring twice in the first inning on a two-run double. The Owls extended their lead in the fifth with four more runs, seemingly putting the game out of reach.
Despite being held scoreless for six innings, the Vikings came alive in the seventh. The rally began when second baseman Haleigh Jacobs was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, bringing in Long Beach's first run. Third baseman Michelle Cervantes followed with a two-run single to cut the deficit to 6-3. Left fielder Sienna Rievley then drove in another run with a groundout, making it 6-4. Pinch hitter Madison Ramon kept the momentum going, delivering a game-tying RBI single.
With the crowd on its feet, right fielder May Ramirez delivered the final blow—a clutch single walk-off hit to complete the Vikings' incredible comeback.
"Going up to bat, I tuned everything out," Ramirez said. "In the opportunity I was given, I was able to back up my teammates. In that moment, I wanted it so bad—not just for myself, but for my team. The feeling is indescribable."
"It's a big win that shows our fight and Viking pride," said Director of Softball Operations Megan Martinez. "I said this after last game—this year is going to be special."
The Vikings will be back in action on Tuesday, January 28, when they travel to Chaffey College for a 2:30 p.m. matchup.
