The Long Beach City College softball team delivered a commanding 7-0 win over Pasadena City College in South Coast Conference action.
The Vikings wasted no time getting on the board in the first inning, as designated player Hailey Harris drove in first baseman Anaya Togia and third baseman Michelle Cervantes with a single to center field. Catcher Madison Ramon followed up with an RBI single, scoring left fielder Mikaela Pacheco to give Long Beach a 3-0 lead.
In the fourth, Togia added to the Vikings' lead with an RBI single, bringing home second baseman Haleigh Jacobs. Pinch hitter Lela Asi broke the game open in the fifth, smashing a two-run double to left field, plating pinch runner Zara Mineo and Pacheco for a 6-0 advantage.
Long Beach capped off the scoring in the sixth when Harris grounded out but still managed to bring Togia across the plate, securing the 7-0 shutout.
Togia credited the team's all-around effort in the win. "Today everyone had each other's back—passing the bat around, getting the simple outs, which is what we practice on. I think today's win was a team win and a great win for us to keep rolling."
Pitcher Adalise Valenzuela echoed the team-first mentality, adding, "I'm glad the team behind me got my back, which gave me the confidence to keep going."
The Vikings will be back on the field on Thursday, February 27 against LA Harbor College at 3 p.m.
