The Vikings softball team cruised to a 10-1 victory over Compton College in six innings on Tuesday afternoon.
The Long Beach City College softball team cruised to a 10-1 victory over Compton College in six innings on Tuesday afternoon, strengthening their hold on the South Coast Conference with a 10-1 record (16-2 overall).
The Vikings wasted no time getting on the board, striking for four runs in the first inning. Hailey Harris sparked the scoring with an RBI single, followed by a two-run double from Mikaela Pacheco. Jaela Ruiz capped the rally with a groundout that brought in another run.
Long Beach kept the momentum rolling in the third, as Haleigh Jacobs roped a two-run double to center field, extending the lead to 6-0. In the fourth, Anaya Togia added an RBI single to push the advantage to seven.
Compton managed to scratch across an unearned run in the sixth, but the Vikings quickly shut the door. Pacheco drove in another run with a single before Zara Mineo sealed the win with a two-run double, enforcing the run-rule victory.
Harris delivered another dominant performance in the circle, allowing just one unearned run on one hit while striking out eight in six innings to improve her record to 9-1.
"The team has what it takes," said Michelle Cervantes. "The energy we bring—even with rain delays—is so strong. Every time we step on that field, we play our hearts out for the girl next to us."
Director of Softball Operations Megan Martinez echoed the sentiment. "I'm proud of our focus and resilience," she said.
The Vikings will look to continue their winning streak when they return to action on Thursday, March 13 against Rio Hondo at the Vikings Softball Complex.
