The No. 4 Long Beach City College softball team blanked No. 13 Bakersfield College, 5-0, on Saturday afternoon to complete a two-game sweep in the CCCAA SoCal Regional Playoffs and advance to the Super Regionals.
Sophomore pitcher Hailey Harris was dominant in the circle, tossing a complete-game one-hitter with three strikeouts to improve to 25-3 on the season.
Long Beach opened the scoring in the third inning when left fielder Sienna Rievley raced around the bases for an inside-the-park home run to right field. Center fielder Alesa Gonzalez and Rievley each added RBI singles to extend the lead.
"Our offense came through when we needed it most," said Head Coach and Director of Softball Operations Megan Martinez. "Harris continued to pound the mound. We've found our rhythm and are excited to keep the playoff momentum going. We're looking forward to hosting El Camino for Super Regionals and pushing toward our ultimate goal—making it to State."
With the win, the Vikings will host the Super Regionals on Friday, May 9 and, Saturday, May 10 at the LBCC Softball Complex.
