Track and Field: Vikings advance 10 to Friday's Southern California Finals
The Long Beach City College track and field team has qualified in 10 events for Friday’s (May 13) Southern California Regional Championships.

The Viking men will have six individuals and two relays in the finals while the LBCC women will have one individual and a relay squad competing for the chance to advance to the State Championships.
Leading the way for the men was the 4x400 meter relay team of Roosevelt Payne, Daveon Collins, Kiree Jabrill, and Jonathan Sanders. The squad won their heat at the SoCal preliminaries on Friday at Mt. San Antonio College with the top qualifying time of 3:14.27.
Sanders won his heat of the 400-meter hurdles with the second fastest qualifying time of 52.94. Sanders will have another busy afternoon as he will also team with Collins, Derek Speight, and Imani Hall in the 4x100 relay. LBCC was sixth overall in the event with a time of 41.91.
Collins will also be competing in three events. On top of both relays, Collins advanced to the final of the 100 meters after taking third in his heat with a time of 10.66.
Marquan Jackson rounds out LBCC runners in the finals. Jackson was second in his heat of the 110 high hurdles and had the sixth overall time of 14.90.
In jumps, Corey Winston is a double qualifier after finishing fifth in the high jump (6-4 ¾) and seventh in the triple jump (46-11 ½). Also, Kunghee Bang was sixth in the long jump at 23-1 ¼ and will also move on to the finals.
On the women's side, the 4x100 relay team of Stephanique Brown, Ashley Craddock, Jessica Sheffield, and Phillisha Nunley finished third in their heat and eighth overall with a time of 48.39 to advance to the SoCal Finals.
The LBCC women's lone individual moving on is Mary Onuohah in the javelin. She finished 10th with a mark of 100-4.
The CCCAA Southern California Regional Track and Field Championship finals are set for Friday at Mt. SAC. Field events are scheduled to start at 3 pm, with running events set to begin at 5 pm.
