Williams leads Long Beach at South Coast Conference finals

Two-sport standout Jasmine Williams was the top individual for Long Beach City College at the 2014 South Coast Conference Track & Field Championship finals on Friday at LBCC's Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Williams, a first-team all-conference selection for the SCC champion Viking women's basketball team, earned all three team points for the LBCC women at the conference finals.

Williams set season-best marks in both the 100-meter hurdles and the long jump. Her time of 15.87 in the hurdles was good for seventh place while her leap of 4.95 meters finished her in eighth place. She was also 13th overall in the javelin with a throw of 25.46 meters.

Freshman thrower Jessica Logologo just missed scoring in the shot put and discus. She was ninth in the shot put with a toss of 9.50 meters and finished 10th in the discus at 26.04 meters. Logologo was also 17th in the javelin at 20.38.

Freshman Destinie Hernandez ran 5:22.42 to finish in 10th place in the 1,500 meters final while Jocelyn Ochoa threw 19.59 meters to finish 18th in the javelin.

On the men's side, freshman Kimani Gilbert was the Vikings' top finisher in the high jump. He cleared a season-best 1.75 meters for 11th place overall.

In throws, freshman Jose Ochoa was 15th in the javelin at 36.23 meters. And in the 5,000 meters, freshman Elias Galvan was 29th with a time of 17:27.72.
