Anterio “Taz” Bateman (Football) and Chantel Dunson (Track and Field) have been named the Long Beach City College Male and Female Athletes of the Year for the 2014-15 sports season. LBCC head coaches along with a panel of local media selected this season’s winners.

Long Beach City College freshman Chantel Dunson closed out the 2015 with her best jump of the season. Her mark of 11.59 meters (38-0 1/4) earned her a first-place finish in the triple jump at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Track and Field State Championship at College of San Mateo on Saturday.

Long Beach City College will send two individuals and one relay team to the upcoming California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Track and Field State Championship meet scheduled May 15-16 at College of San Mateo.

Long Beach City College Track and Field will send 14 on to the 2015 Southern California Championship Finals following some impressive finishes at the SoCal Prelims meet on Saturday at Cerritos College.

The Long Beach City College track and field program will be well represented at the Southern California Championships after the Viking men finished fourth while the women were fifth at the 2015 South Coast Conference Championship finals on Saturday at Cerritos College.

Long Beach City College will be well represented at the South Coast Conference Track and Field Championship Finals as the Vikings have qualified for 22 events for Saturday’s event. Also at Tuesday’s SCC Prelims meet, LBCC already earned three top-10 finishes.

Competing at one of the biggest track and field meets of the season, Long Beach City College freshman Bayron Manuel put together his finest effort of the year. At the prestigous Mt. SAC Relays, Manuel cruised to first-place overall in the 110-meter high hurdles with a season-best time of 14.39 to lead a group of 14 Vikings at the invitational meet on Saturday.

Four members of the Long Beach City College track and field team went long distance to compete at the SF State Distance Carnival on April 4 in San Francisco. The group put together a great effort, compiling three personal best marks as well as one season best.

The Long Beach City College track and field team put together an impressive effort to total 29 top-10 finishes at the 2015 Pasadena Relays at Pasadena City College’s Robinson Stadium on Saturday.

Current Long Beach City College head coach of women’s track and field and cross country Karen Vigilant will be inducted in the Wilson High School on Wednesday, February 4.
