Julio Jimenez Named Interim Head Coach of Men’s Track & Field

Long Beach City College Athletics is excited to announce Julio Jimenez as the Interim Head Coach of Men's Track & Field.

Jimenez has been with the Vikings for the past eight years as assistant coach of the men's track & field team, and the head coach of the men's cross country team, where he has sent teams or individuals to the State Championships for the last seven years.

"During Gabe's four-years as our director, I was given the chance to shadow him on and off the field. We spent countless hours in our office sharing ideas, welcoming the student-athletes and just doing whatever we could to make our programs better. I'm sad to see our friend leave us but am excited for him as he gets a chance to develop another program to the next level," said Jimenez. "I want to thank Bill and the rest of the coaching staff in giving me the opportunity to be named Men's Track & Field Head Coach. We have a very cohesive coaching staff that will help our student-athletes achieve their goals on and off the field during the current environment. "

Prior to LBCC, Jimenez began his coaching career at Chico State where he also competed in cross-country.

"We are fortunate to have someone like Julio take the reins of the men's track and field program and to help guide all four teams of the men's and women's track and field as well as cross country programs," said Interim Athletics Director Bill Husak. "He cares so much about the student-athletes in the program and has history and experience with them and LBCC."
