The Long Beach City College track and field team competed at the CSULA Invitational over the weekend.
The men's team saw top showings with the 4x100m relay team (DeAngelo Chester, Terrance Clay, Wesley Easter, Azjani McGill) earning first place with a State 'B' qualifying time 42.31. They are currently ranked fourth overall in the state.
Freshman sprinter Jonathan Perez-Cortez earned second place in the 800m, while lowering his personal best time to 1:57.49. He is currently ranked 7th in state.
The 4x400m relay team (Xavier Evans, Azjani McGill, Armando Padilla, Jonathan Perez-Cortez) ) showed a top showing once again with a second place podium finish with time of 3:25.61. The are currently ranked fourth in the state.
For the throwers, freshman Joseph Munoz earned second place in the shot sut with a personal best throw of 11.67 (38'3"), and following right behind him was freshman Tully Farmer in third place with with a throw of 11.26m (36'11").
Freshman jumper Wesley Easter earned fourth place overall in his long jump debut with a personal best jump 6.44m (21'1.5").
The women's 4x100m relay team (Destinee Reid, Desiree Hansford, Taryn Benton, Radiance Lindsey), who is ranked 5th in the state, took first overall with a State 'B' qualifying time 50.91.The 4x400m relay team (Natalie Mejia, Radiance Lindsey, Destinee Reid, Taj Grant), whis also ranked fifth in the state, placed second overall with a State 'B' qualifying time 4:11.45.
Freshman Natalie Mejia earned second place in the 800m race, while lowering her season best time to 2:26.63.
Freshman thrower and No. 4 ranked Casey Davis earned a fourth place showing shot put with a throw of 10.64m (34'11"). In addition, freshman thrower Serenity Lindemans took fourth in the discus with a season best throw of 29.71m (97'6").
The track and field team will be back in action on Friday, Mar. 4 at the Beach Opener at Long Beach State.
