Track & Field Advances to the SoCal Finals

The Vikings were successful at the SoCal Trials over the weekend at Moorpark College with multiple student-athletes qualifying to the SoCal Finals next weekend. Thrower Casey Davis competed in the shot put prelims and finals this Friday earning a 4th place finish with a toss of 11.71 (38'5") to advance to the California Community College Athletics Association State Championships on May 21st. 

Other SoCal Championship Final qualifiers on the women's side included our 4x100 (5th overall) and 4x400 (2nd overall) teams. Radiance Lindsey was a two event qualifier in the 100 hurdles (15.37) and 400h (1:06.20). Taj Grant also was a qualifier in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:06.52. Destinee Reid earned a couple of personal record performances in the 100m (12.21) and 200m (25.12) to qualify in both events. Natalie Mejia was a 6th place qualifier in 800m with a time of 2:22.68, while Ailene Rios was another mid-distance qualifier in the 1500m. In the field, Taryn Benton was the 8th qualifier in the triple jump with a leap of 10.34m (33'11"). 

On the men's side, Azjani McGill was the top qualifier the 200m running a State leading time (20.87). He also was the 3rd best qualifier in the long jump with a leap of 7.33 (24'1") and 5th in the 100m with a personal best time of 10.46. LaSalle Jackson was also a SoCal finals qualifier in the triple jump with a leap of 14.06m (46'2").

Our Vikings are back at Moorpark College next Friday, May 13th to compete at the SoCal Regional Finals with an opportunity to advance to the CCCAA State Championships.
