Vikings Shine at Pirate Invitational, Men’s Team Takes First Place
The Vikings track and field teams delivered impressive performances at the Pirate Invitational at Ventura College.
The Vikings track and field teams delivered impressive performances at the Pirate Invitational at Ventura College over the weekend. The men's team secured a first-place finish, while the women's team put up a strong effort to claim second place overall.
On the men's side, Riki Moscoso took first place in the 150m with a time of 16.35 seconds. Louis Mazariengos also placed first with a time of 11:47 in the 5k. Antonio Powers continued the Vikings' success, winning the triple jump, and Gavin Wang secured another first-place finish in the javelin. In discus, Anthony Arochi placed in the top five, and Marcus Guzman posted a solid time of 50.61 seconds in the 400m.
"It was great to see us put together great all-around performances to come away with a top team score on the men's side and a 2nd place team score on the women's side," said Head Coach and Director of Track and Field Marcus Carroll. "Our potential as a team is there. Our goal will be to keep this momentum for continued success."
For the women's team, Jennifer Martinez finished second in the 200m with a time of 20.25 seconds, and Melanie Moreno also secured a second-place finish in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 14:30. The 4x400m relay team, Danika Hunter, Zion Peters, Sa'Mir Braccey, and Rylee Montez, earned third place. Natalie Paredes finished first in the shot put, and also held third-place for the discus throw. Lauren Ferguson placed second in the javelin with a 27.62m mark.
The Vikings will be back in action on February 22, 2025, when they travel to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps for the Rossi Relays.
