Women’s Basketball: Long Beach gets No. 8 seed for SoCal Regional Playoffs
Despite an impressive 23-4 overall record and 13-3 South Coast Conference mark, the Long Beach City College women’s basketball team received the No. 8 seed for the upcoming 2013 CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs.

Despite an impressive 23-4 overall record and 13-3 South Coast Conference mark, the Long Beach City College women's basketball team received the No. 8 seed for the upcoming 2013 CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs.
The Vikings will host No. 9 seed College of the Canyons on Friday (Mar. 1) at 7 p.m. at LBCC the Hall of Champions Gym.
"We're just happy to be in," said third-season head coach Michael Anderson. "I don't care where we are seeded."
Among Southern California teams, LBCC had the sixth highest season RPI (.602), seventh highest non-conference RPI (.614), fourth highest ranked winning percentage (.846), and was ranked No. 5 in the final regular season coaches poll.
The Vikings finished in second place behind SCC champion and undefeated top seed Mt. San Antonio College but was placed behind third-place Pasadena City College. PCC got the No. 6 seed with a 22-6 overall record and 12-4 conference mark.
Earlier this season, Long Beach defeated Pasadena 71-57 at home, but fell 56-44 to the Lancers on the road. Also this season, LBCC beat No. 7 seed Cypress College (21-8) by a final score of 69-54.
Canyons brings a 20-8 overall record into Friday's contest and is currently riding a five-game winning streak. The Cougars finished second in the Western State Conference South Division at 10-2.
The winner of Friday's LBCC-Canyons game will likely face No. 1 Mt. SAC on March 6 on the road. The Mounties will play the winner of No. 16 Riverside and No. 17 LA Pierce on March 1.
Long Beach went 0-2 against Mt. SAC this season, but nearly pulled off the upset win on January 4.
