A trio of standout Long Beach City College women's basketball players have signed their national letters of intent to take their talents to the state of Alabama next season. Shakeena Benton, Crystal Cockerhan, and Symphony Logan will continue their academic and athletic careers at Talladega College this upcoming fall.

Long Beach City College’s Michael Anderson and freshman guard Abbey Goodsell both earned top South Coast Conference South Division honors and head a list of seven all-conference postseason selections. Anderson was named the SCC South Division Coach of the Year while Goodsell was named SCC South Most Valuable Player.

Sophomore Shakeena Benton scored 14 points while sophomore Destinn Romain (pictured) came off the bench to score 12 points to help lead the No. 4 state-ranked LBCC women's basketball team to a 57-44 win over Los Angeles Southwest College in the Vikings' regular-season finale on Wednesday.

The LBCC women’s basketball team went 2-1 over the weekend to take second place at the Irvine Valley College tournament. Long Beach picked up wins over Imperial Valley and Irvine Valley but lost in overtime 69-64 to Pasadena City College in Saturday’s tournament final. Sophomore Shakeena Benton was named to the All-Tournament team.

After opening the season with a 5-0 record, the Long Beach City College women’s basketball team has been rewarded with the No. 1 spots in both the California Community College Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (CCCBWCA) State and Southern California polls.
