Vikings Take Down Compton 65-57 in Conference Play

The Long Beach City College women's basketball team defeated the Compton College Tartars 65-57 in South Coast Conference play on Wednesday evening in their annual Coaches versus Cancer game. With the win, the Vikings advance to 11-14 overall, and 4-3 in conference.

Compton took the lead in the first quarter by outscoring the Viking by five points. They kept their momentum through the second quarter and ended the half leading Long Beach 27-23.

The Vikings battled back and took the lead towards the end of the third quarter and finished it out ahead of Compton by two points.

Long Beach held on and outscored the Tartars 22-16 to capture the 65-57 win. Sophomore guard Kaylin Brown and sophomore forward De'Brianna Hampton both tallied 19 points each for the Vikings. Hampton was perfect at the free throw line as she went four-for-four.

Sophomore guard Taja Ward had 12 rebounds for Long Beach and totaled three steals and had seven points.

The Long Beach women's basketball team will return to conference action on Friday, Feb. 15 at LA Harbor College at 7 p.m.
