Vikings split games at Ventura Tournament

VENTURA – The Long Beach City College women's basketball team went 1-1 at the two-day Ventura College-Kiwanis Tournament of Champions this past weekend. The Vikings opened the event with a convincing 75-50 victory over West Hills College Lemoore on Friday but suffered an 85-57 loss to host Ventura to close it out on Saturday.

Amanda Lopez had a big weekend, as she totaled 54 points, 22 rebounds, 10 assists, and 5 steals over the weekend.

She posted a double-double with season-highs of 33 points and 13 rebounds against West Hills while adding 6 assists and 5 steals. In the Ventura game, she nearly had another double-double with 21 points and 9 rebounds.

Ariana Grimes had another good game against West Hills with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Sierra Hill added 13 points and 8 rebounds while Jaden Sanderson chipped in with 9 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 steals.

Sanderson put together a solid game in the Ventura loss as she led the Vikings with 22 points to go with 8 rebounds.

Long Beach moved to 4-3 overall. The Vikings are back in action on Tuesday (Nov. 22) when they host Victor Valley College in a 5 p.m. non-conference game at the Hall of Champions Gym.
