Vikings beat Fullerton 86-57, go 1-2 at LA Valley tournament

VALLEY GLEN – Sophomore Ariana Grimes scored 12 of her 16 points in the fourth quarter, part of a 31-point surge by Long Beach City College over the final 10 minutes of the contest, to help lead the No. 10 state-ranked Vikings to an 86-57 win over Fullerton College on Friday at the Buddy's All-Star Classic hosted by Los Angeles Valley College.

The Vikings went 1-2 at the weekend tourney. On Thursday, LBCC suffered a 73-59 loss to No. 8 Ventura College in its opener and fell 69-55 to No. 14 Mt. San Antonio College in Saturday's finale.

In the win over Fullerton, the Vikings outrebounded the Hornets by a 63-44 margin and forced 18 steals on 26 turnovers.

Amanda Lopez scored a game-high 19 points to go with 7 rebounds and 5 steals. Aaliyah Carter and Grimes both had double-double for LBCC. Carter posted 17 points and led all with 14 boards while Grimes added 10 rebounds to her 16 points. Jaden Sanderson had a good all-around game with 12 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals.

Against Ventura on Thursday, Sanderson led LBCC with 18 points while Carter posted 16 points and 8 rebounds. Sanderson had another big game in the Mt. SAC loss, leading all scorers with 23 points. Grimes added 11 points and 9 boards and Carter totaled 10 points and 8 rebounds.

Long Beach moved to 8-5 overall. The Vikings are back in action on Dec. 13 when they travel to Orange Coast College for a non-conference game.
